Hotline Reports
This will be a much shorter report; due to a church function, I only heard the first half of the show this evening. (I was surprised when this show was moved from Sunday to Tuesday, given the Braves and Falcons schedules.) From other reports Ive seen, not much was said this week. Everyones attention is - as it should be - on monster Hurricane Floyd as it brushes Florida on its way to Savannah and Charleston. Plus, we have an open week. Munson was also fooled by the switch; he was in Memphis on a speaking engagement, so Scott Howard filled in.

Based on reports from others, the highlight of the second half hour (and of the show, for that matter) was Donnan informing us that Holtz had called to apologize for a flagrant foul which resulted in Arnaud's injury. Holtz had caught it on further review (after trying to brush the issue aside at his Monday press conference).

JD confirmed to Howard that only a small portion of the offensive and defensive packages has been shown in the first two games. The target is to have everything ready by the LSU game. He did the same thing last year, though we almost got in trouble for it against Wyoming. That was due to second-half turnovers, though, not a limited playbook.

Plus, we had to work around a shortage of running backs in the SC game, which led to more pass plays and passing formations than might have been desirable.

Expect Jessie Miller to remain solely at LB (even though he was also a high school RB). The staff does not want to mortgage his future at LB just to cover a short-term problem. Miller will have a chance at lots of playing time next year, since Orantes Grant is a senior.

Charles Grant will continue in his role as a backup DE and generally short-yardage back. Donnan would prefer he get more comfortable in that role, in game circumstances, before considering expanding that role, especially on offense.

Hopefully that covers the highlights and avoids the usual goofy questions. :-) I'll be back on board with a full report next Sunday night.
