UGA Football
Here are revised early guesses/projections for SEC TV in 2009. As always, this projection is offered as a guide as to how the schedule might unfold, and especially for adjusting as surprises develop during the season. Many of the changes to SEC TV that take effect this season have been discussed in prior versions of this projection and in other UGA blogs.
Based on announcements from the SEC and the various TV partners, the TV pecking order will be approximately as follows.
• As always, CBS has first pick for its 3:30 game. CBS will also have one prime time game and one 12 noon game, and generally exclusive time slots. ESPN can encroach slightly in the evening a couple of times per year, with SEC approval.
• ESPN will then pick its prime time games for ESPN and ESPN2. On occasion, also an SEC game at 12 noon ET provided it is not in conflict with CBS. This will be rare, though, since ESPN/ESPN2 typically uses the 12 noon slots for Big 10 or Big East games.
• ESPNU will typically have a game in prime time - say, 7:00 ET, and sometimes also games in other time slots.
• Fox Sports Net (FSN) will have up to 7 games during the season, all in prime time – typically, 7:00 ET kickoff.
• The ESPN regional games are branded as SEC Network and are indicated here as “SEC net.” That game kicks off around 12:20 pm (I’m ignoring the extra one minute.)
• CSS will have up to 6 games during the season. I’m unsure whether all will be in prime time or if some will be early kickoffs. I will assume a mix.
• Games not included in the projection may also be televised, but no guess is made here as to how that will be handled by ESPN on its various platforms or by subcontracting out. Also, each school is allowed one PPV during the season.
• No game is projected to kick off earlier than 12 noon ET.
