Georgia's Kupets Nominated For ESPY Award

From GeorgiaDogs.com: ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia gymnast Courtney Kupets has been selected as an ESPY Award nominee in the category of Best Female College Athlete. The ESPYS are presented annually by ESPN to the top amateur, college and professional athletes and coaches. All proceeds from the ESPYS and related events benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research in memory of the late Jim Valvano.

The 2009 ESPYS will take place Wednesday, July 15, at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. The ESPYS will air on ESPN and ESPN-HD on Sunday, July 19, at 9 p.m.

Fans may vote for all or some of the 37 categories at www.ESPYS.tv. One vote per day may be cast in a category.

Kupets has been nominated for Best Female College Athlete along with Notre Dame soccer player Kerri Hanks, Washington softball player Danielle Lawrie, Connecticut basketball player Maya Moore and California swimmer Dana Vollmer.

Kupets recently won the Honda-Broderick Cup as the nation’s top collegiate female athlete. She also was named the SEC Athlete of the Year, as well as the AAI National, NCAA Southeast Regional and SEC Gymnast of the Year.

She finished her college career as the NCAA record-holder with nine individual event titles, including four in 2009. Kupets was a three-time NCAA all-around champion and a 15-time All-American.
