Basketball Hotline Report - Jan. 28, 2000
Says Auburn is probably the best team we have faced so far, though we had them on road and Kentucky at home. Tenn. is probably the best team in the league and he wouldn't be suprised to see them in the Final Four. Vandy is a NCAA tourney team and will be a tough game for the Dawgs Wednesday night in Athens. Watching Dan Langy, the SEC scoring leader play, will be worth the price of admission ($5). Will put Coleman on him and hope he can contain him.
JH on Nova game:
Likes the atmosphere of their 6500 seat facility. Would be happy at UGA with a 10,000 to 11,000 seat arena. Was disappointed in our free throw misses and turnovers. We were shooting 75% in fall but have now dropped to 65%.
JH on team:
Need someone to step up besides DA, Evans, and Coleman. Either AJ or someone off the bench. AJ still struggling with shot , though rest of game is strong. Coaches are working with DA to develop a mid-range game. Need to get him to the line more. JH is really satisfied and proud with Moses White's progress. Feels he is doing a good job and team can not play without him.
Caller asked about where Harrick's former assistants are:
Asberry at Kansas St.
Gottfried at Ala
Romaire at St Louis
Farmer at Loyola-Chicago
Holland at San Diego
White at Marshall
JH on season so far:
He feels this team is very competitive and close to being a winner. With all but Oliver returning next year and the addition of Ezra and the three recruits he is confident we will be in the Tourney in 2001.
Coach Harrick is proud of his summer basketball camp for boys. Call 1-800-259-2808 for info.
